Support for Overseas Missions
We have a small group who are the catalyst for encouraging support for Societies working overseas.
Each year we have a Lent project focussing on a particular piece of work, rotating the society we chose each year. We also have a Mission Sunday, again chosing a particular society and piece of work.
Our main focus is on our Church Mission Society Mission partner, Dr Ruth Husler. A GP who went to Tanzania last year to work at a Health Clinic in the Diocese of Tabora. Our support involves regular prayer for her. Our financial support is of two kinds - one is to give money to CMS for her general support, salary, travel and other expenses. Then on a personal level, because of the poverty she comes up against each day, individual members of the congregatrion give money separately†for medicines,†HIV tests and travel to the hospital as many patients do not have the money for such things.
So that we can send a small annual amount to about 9 societies, we have what we call a second envelope. Those supporting the church on a regular basis through the envelope scheme are provided with two envelopes, one for home and one for overseas. It is from the overseas envelope that we can support the following societies
